The belt is made out of 2" split key rings for the circles, craft foam with silver spray paint for the solid/star pieces, 18 gauge silver-coated copper craft wire and silver ball beads. I used epoxy to glue the wire to the circles, and sewed each circle directly onto the fabric belt with metallic thread because linking all the circles and then trying to get them to sit just right on the under belt seemed like too much of a nightmare.

For lots of detail on how the real belt is designed, go to Alley Cat Scratch.

For the craft foam, I followed G Baille's tutorial on making craft foam elvish armour - she explains it much better than I can, so I highly recommend checking out her page.

Basically, you cut out your shapes from the craft foam:

Then you glue them onto a thin fabric backing and let dry overnight. Use fabric glue, which has some flexibility.

When they're fully dried, cut the shapes out of the fabric as close to the foam as possible (you don't want any fabric edges peeking out).

Now seal them with several coats of fabric glue - you might want to thin it out with water a bit if it is too gooey. I guessed that they'd had enough coats of glue when I couldn't see any little air holes  in the foam anymore. Let them dry overnight.

Now you can paint them. I just used generic silver spray paint.

I used 18 gauge wire for the twisted flower shapes of the belt sections, winding them around a small jig and pegs set I got at Michael's for about $15. I'm not fond of the big bulky section in the centre where the wires all cross and wrap around each other, but I couldn't see a way to avoid it, and I figured the silver balls would cover it up well enough. I used Epoxy to glue the wire to the rings. Again, let dry overnight!

I think I just used regular glue to attach the foam pieces to the rings, since they tucked in there fairly snugly already, between the wire sections.
